I’ve had a wonderfully varied career, trained as a coach and am passionate about supporting people with their career choices and ongoing development journeys.
At 25, I was offered the opportunity to manage a $150+M cocoa business in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. I took my wife and six-week old daughter with me and had one of the most challenging & fulfilling experiences of my life. The job was theoretically “way above my pay grade” ... I didn’t see it that way and thrived.
After twelve years running cocoa operations on three different continents, my career drifted from the unconventional to the conventional which suited me less and less. I kept moving between companies and roles, only to feel increasingly disconnected with myself and disillusioned with how my career was unfolding.
Years later I discovered what was causing the disconnect and dissatisfaction with my career. A career coach profiled me using the Birkman Method. This just blew my mind and told me so much about why my choices had left me feeling so drained.
I felt enlightened and a little sad. Sad I hadn’t had this information when I moved on from the cocoa trade and away from my ‘sweetspot job’. Enlightened because I realised what a powerful instrument the Birkman Method is and how I could use it to help others' with their career choices.
Career coaching changed my life. I became more aware of my strengths, my needs and, importantly, my derailers. As a consequence, I discovered a new path for myself. I trained as a coach and love supporting younger people to gain insights.
